Call for Proposals is now open until

October 20th, 2025

Possible topics include but are not limited to:

1. Refusal as Bloom: How acts of saying no—disidentification, disruption,

defiance—create room for joy and growth.

2. Archiving Memory: Exploring community memory, intergenerational narratives, and archival practices that honor jotería lives.

3. Love as Praxis: Investigating how love functions as a political, relational, and spiritual ethic in jotería communities.

4. The Erotics of Refusal: How queer and trans pleasure destabilize colonial,

patriarchal, and capitalist logics.

5. Rooted Rituals: Reclaiming spiritual practices, ancestral knowledge, and

land-based traditions within jotería world-making.

6. Survivance & Resistance: Highlighting how jotería communities resist

disappearance through creative and embodied practice.

7. Kinship as Resistance: Uplifting the significance of chosen family, community caregiving, and collective sustenance.

8. Temporalities: Challenging linear time, embracing cyclical and ancestral

rhythms of healing and transformation.

9. Disability Justice & Jotería Worlds: Intersections of care, access, pleasure, and resistance in disabled queer and trans lives.

10. Healing through Refusal: Practices of self-preservation and community healing that emerge from saying no to harm.

11. Intergenerational Dialogues: Creating cross-generational learning, support, and memory between jotería youth and elders.

12. Music, Art, and Storytelling as Resistance: Celebrating the role of creative expression in sustaining jotería communities.

13. Land, Body, and Memory: Linking land-based identities and environmental justice with queer and trans liberation.

14. Rest, Leisure, and Slowness as Refusal: Challenging grind culture and

productivity through jotería frameworks of pleasure and ease.

We welcome a variety of formats which include but are not limited to:

    • Purpose of presentation. Be sure to draw connections to the conference theme and/or strand.

    • Method(s) for engaging attendees (e.g., small-group discussion, healing circles, written reflection, art session, etc.).

    • Please keep in mind that all sessions will be 90 minutes.

    • Include 3-5 keywords that help describe the main topic of your session.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance by November 10, 2025. We look forward to engaging in a rich and meaningful exploration of pleasure, power, and liberation within Jotería communities at this conference.
